Back in the Saddle

Ever have a bad experience with something that turns you off of it for a really long time? For me, it was an dance with tequila in a hotel room down in New Jersey somewhere around 1983 (no, we don’t need to get into the details here…). The experience was so nasty that I couldn’t even smell the stuff without gagging for about 25 years, let’s leave it at that. I’m still pretty close to a tea-totaller, where a 12-pack of beer should last me most of the summer. I expect that most of these bad experiences centre around overdoing something, that certainly was the case with the tequila. My latest experience has to do with writing, and I think it’s high time I get back in the saddle. Continue reading

The Welcome Mat?

There’s nothing that says “welcome to our wonderful country” quite like taking you aside for almost 4 hours to check over what you thought was reasonable government sanctioned paperwork (provided by the same folk that are checking it out), checking out your car, asking you to sit down and give a sworn statement under oath (that sure settles your nerves) about why you would want to enter their country, taking your fingerprints and picture, and walking you back to your home country while one of the officers drives your car back around for you.

At least when I do get to work with people down there, I find they’re quite nice. I guess that’s really if I do get to work with people down there…

It’s all nice to have agreements like NAFTA, but what’s the point if each country will blatantly interpret (or misinterpret) it for their own gain? Softwood lumber, anyone?

Better Living Through…Better Sleep?

It’s my first post (at least here…been writing like a maniac elsewhere) for the New Year. Given that my last post might have put a bit of a scare into a few people, I think I owe you an update. I think it might be a long one, please bear with me. Continue reading

Back to Work

Funny…on my business site, I posted ‘Back to School‘ earlier this week. What can it all mean? Continue reading

Nothing Better to Do

I sat down this morning for an interview, the first one I have had in a long time. I was actually quite nervous. Continue reading

A Far From Perfect World

Here I sit, in the middle of what has turned out to be a week from hell at work. Not a good thing, given that I run my own business and theoretically have control over what I do or don’t do. Continue reading

Two Worlds

For the third time now, I just finished writing a post that was originally intended for this blog, but it turned into something that I posted on my business blog instead (this latest one’s scheduled to show up next Sunday). What is that telling me? Continue reading

Not Just a Job

I’m sitting here this morning with a huge laundry list of things to do. Some of ‘em I can knock off in a few minutes, some are part of much more massive undertakings. Overall I am pretty motivated to move ahead, but I thought I would take a minute to reflect on what does motivate me. Continue reading

Practicing What I Preach

I asked Owen how his Dandelion Picking service was doing a few days ago. He had a great start last year, found a need and a way to service that need, and even decided to donate half his proceeds to cancer research (and he has the receipts to prove it). Continue reading
