Ah…So That’s Our Hand-basket

When Osama was whacked a couple of days ago and the world rejoiced (well, half the world, it seems), I was saddened. Not because I’m part of that other half, but because the act and the world reaction clarified for me why we’re a doomed species. Continue reading

Appreciating Loved Ones

I just got back from a quick visit with siblings in Ontario. It’s been more than a couple of years, and as usual, sitting with my siblings can get me thinking. Continue reading

A Pair of Shoes

I stopped by the Art Gallery on my way to lunch today. Not to visit any exhibit inside, or to catch some of the second-hand BC Bud wafting from the bike couriers that like to hang out there between gigs. I stopped by to drop off a pair of shoes. Continue reading

Separating Concern from Responsibility

I’ve found that one of the ways we can get in deep trouble when we are trying to help others (or to pull ourselves up from our own bootstraps) is that we don’t distinguish between concern and responsibility. Continue reading

A Far From Perfect World

Here I sit, in the middle of what has turned out to be a week from hell at work. Not a good thing, given that I run my own business and theoretically have control over what I do or don’t do. Continue reading

One of my earliest friendships was with Billy Walker. He lived across the street from us, two doors down from Mrs. Mears’ store, along a highway that was far less populated than it is now, and far less travelled. Continue reading

One Life, One Chance

I grabbed an opportunity to run through some e-mails ‘n stuff in a Starbuck’s this morning, and someone ahead of me had “One Life, One Chance” tattooed across her back. Not too impressed with the artwork, apparently based on a song by H20, but the message resonated with me. Continue reading
